Georgio Armani was born in "Piacenza, Italy" in the early 1930s. He not only was educated in the medical field, but he also took pictures. He accomplished both before serving his country.
He began his fashion career as a "window dresser." He started the male clothing production in 1974 and the woman clothing production in 1975. A big boost to the male line came in 1980 when his fashions were worn in the American movie "American Gigolo."
Mr. Armani enjoyed the English lifestyle and designed sweaters for the common man similar to that of British Royalty. Not everyone understood his concept and believed it would never catch on. They were incorrect. He thought of a design for a "soft shoulder silhouette" that is still popular today.
Armani is very successful in his home country and had a net worth a couple of years ago that exceeded 3 billion dollars.
Not only is Georgio Armani a world renowned clothing designer, but he also has over 1500 establishments around the world. He also designs makeup and other items.
A few months ago the latest Armani store opened with a prestigious New York address- "Fifth Avenue." Mr. Armani and two others had artistic contributions in the design of the building. The square footage of the establishment is over 40,000 square feet. It houses Armani makeup, clothing and shoes.
