In order to understand the Armani line of clothes, take a look at the designer, Giorgio Armani. Born in Placenza, Italy in 1934, he had a fascination with cinema and photography. This helped develop his fashion sense, especially through the years he worked in an Italian fashion house called Nino Cerrati. It is through the nine years he worked with Nino that he learned the ropes of designing clothes. Giorgio ventured on his own in 1970, and gave birth to the Armani line in 1974. He has fashion houses in London, New York and Los Angeles.
There are several levels to his line. The most popular to the masses is the Armani Exchange, Armani Casa (furniture), Emporio Armani (USA, exclusive line of Italian sportswear), Premium Cosmetics line, and most recently the Emporio Armani Women's Underwear, and Armani Occhiali (designer eyewear and sunglasses), and Armani Junior, and Giorgio Armani (most expensive; designed for the stars and their spouses).
The Exchange line has the appeal to the masses as a less expensive line which carries the hottest styles and trends. This line was created in 1991 and now boasts of 63 boutiques carrying the lines. Of these 63, 47 are involved in international markets, along with many online retailers as Google.com, Armani.com, and Yahoo.com, among others. The discounted Armani line carries a complete line of men's wear, women's wear, and accessories to meet the needs and desire of men and women everywhere.
Introduction of the Emporio Armani in the Unites States has been a profitable and rewarding decision for Giorgio. It has become the best selling line of all of the divisions.
